The Edo State Police Command has arrested a 43-year-old man, Amadin Williams, over the alleged killing of his childhood friend, Eghosa Osas, during a housewarming party in the state.
The incident reportedly happened at Oben Community, where the victim was attacked and killed while celebrating Christmas with family and friends after returning from abroad.
Police said the suspect has been taken into custody and will be charged to court after investigations are completed.
Confirming the arrest on Sunday, the Police Public Relations Officer, Eno Ikoedem, said the case was reported by the victim’s elder brother.
She explained that Eghosa had stepped out during the event to ease himself when the suspect allegedly confronted him and inflicted a machete cut on his neck, which led to his death.
“The report of the murder is true, and the suspect, believed to be his childhood friend, is in custody. Investigation is ongoing, and the suspect will be charged to court as soon as the investigation is concluded,” Ikoedem said.
Sources said the motive behind the attack is yet to be established.
The Edo State Police Command assured the public that justice would be pursued and urged residents to report suspicious activities promptly to security agencies.
