Wale Adenuga Says Papa Ajasco’s ‘Broke’ Claim Misleading

Veteran filmmaker and CEO of Wale Adenuga Productions, Wale Adenuga, has dismissed actor Abiodun Ayoyinka’s, popularly known as Papa Ajasco, claim of financial hardship as “false and misleading.”
Ayoyinka’s statement that he is struggling financially despite his long-standing role in the TV series sparked online debate. Adenuga clarified the structure of their professional engagement and the support the production company has provided over the years.
Adenuga described Ayoyinka as a “versatile actor” who closely embodies the Papa Ajasco character created in 1976. He emphasised that there has been no irreconcilable difference between them and praised the actor’s talent and dedication.
He noted that Ayoyinka served as a civil servant with the Lagos State Government for over 30 years and had previously benefited from support, including cars and a house in Ogun State. Adenuga questioned why the actor would claim financial hardship despite his government gratuities and other investments.

Addressing the use of the “Papa Ajasco” brand for personal ventures, Adenuga said the restriction was to protect the brand’s integrity but confirmed that actors are free to take on other jobs, including advertisements, with official approval.
He added that other cast members frequently work on other productions and that actors typically spend only six weeks a year on set, allowing time for other engagements.
“The organisation pays according to industry standards and ensures all financial obligations are fulfilled as and when due. Any narrative suggesting financial abandonment or exploitation is entirely false and misleading,” Adenuga said.
He reaffirmed the company’s commitment to maintaining professional relationships and thanked the public for its concern and support.
Adenuga’s statement comes amid public concern following Ayoyinka’s claim, highlighting ongoing debates over the welfare of actors in long-running Nigerian productions.
