UK Tightens Security Ahead Of Tinubu Visit

By Wellington Jopelo
Britain has announced extensive security measures ahead of President Bola Tinubu’s state visit, including road closures, airspace restrictions, and deployment of armed police in Windsor.
The visit is scheduled to begin on Wednesday, March 18, with Tinubu arriving alongside his wife, Oluremi Tinubu, for a reception at Windsor Castle.
Thames Valley Police said it is coordinating with the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead, the Royal Household, and other security partners to ensure a safe visit.
Airspace restrictions over Windsor Castle, which are permanent, will be extended on the day of the visit from 7am to 11:59pm.
Chief Superintendent Adrian Hall of Thames Valley Police’s Joint Operations Unit said the restrictions are part of a broader security operation for the president’s state visit.
He added that the force has significant experience managing Royal events and that extensive planning and preparation have gone into the operation.
“The air restrictions are just one part of our robust security operation, with many measures visible and others not,” Hall said.
The police warned that any breach of the airspace restrictions would constitute a criminal offence under the Air Navigation Order and could lead to arrest.
Specialist officers, including search teams, the Mounted Section, road policing units, and armed personnel, will be deployed across Windsor.
Neighbourhood policing and Project Servator teams will also be engaged to ensure security and public safety.
Authorities will use CCTV networks, hostile vehicle mitigation barriers, and other undisclosed measures to maintain security throughout the visit.
Hall urged the public to support the operation by remaining vigilant and reporting any suspicious activities.
Road closures and parking restrictions are expected to begin from Tuesday, March 17, potentially causing temporary disruptions around Windsor.
The security measures aim to guarantee a smooth and safe state visit for the Nigerian president.
