Terror Threat Letters Trigger Fear and Flight

Suspected terrorists have reportedly circulated threatening letters in several communities across Kwara State, triggering panic and forcing many residents to abandon their homes. The development has particularly affected Ira, Inaja and Aho in Oyun Local Government Area.
The warning messages, allegedly dropped in public areas, cautioned residents about impending attacks. The letters sparked immediate fear, especially following recent deadly raids in parts of the state that left several people killed and others abducted.
Though security authorities are yet to confirm the authenticity of the letters, their impact has been swift. Many families have relocated to safer neighbouring towns, while schools and local markets have shut down amid rising tension.
Farming and other daily economic activities have also been disrupted as villagers remain uncertain about their safety. Community members say the fear of possible attacks has created anxiety across the affected areas.
Traditional leaders and local officials have since alerted security agencies, prompting increased patrols by police and other security personnel. Emergency meetings were also held to reassure residents and coordinate protective measures.
Despite the visible security presence, the atmosphere remains tense. Many residents say they are staying alert and relying on official updates as they hope for stability and protection in the days ahead.
