Taraba governor to join APC January

The Taraba State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has confirmed that Governor Agbu Kefas will be formally received into the party in January 2026. The announcement was made in Jalingo by the state chairman of the APC, Ibrahim Tukur.
Tukur said the governor had already completed the internal process for joining the party. “The governor wrote to his ward executives, and they have duly received him. As far as party records are concerned, Governor Kefas is now a bona fide member of the APC,” he stated.
He explained that the public ceremony initially expected this month had been moved forward because of the tight schedule of the festive season. “December is already jam-packed with activities. We don’t want to drag people across the state when families are preparing for Christmas and the New Year,” he said.
The governor had earlier postponed his planned defection from November after the kidnapping of students in Kebbi State, saying it would be insensitive to proceed with political activities during a national security crisis.
Tukur also revealed that many political actors close to the governor had switched to the APC ahead of the formal event. “What you are seeing is a natural realignment. Key stakeholders around the governor have joined him, and more are coming. There is absolutely no cause for alarm,” he said.
He added that the party leadership had already agreed on the new timeline. “We have met as a party and agreed that January is the best time. Once a specific date is agreed upon, we will communicate it to the public,” he said.
