Serena Williams training hard for stunning comeback

Serena Williams is training intensely for a return to competitive tennis, according to her former coach Rick Macci. The 23-time Grand Slam champion, who has not played since the 2022 U.S. Open, is said to be “going all out” in preparation for a possible comeback. Macci believes her return to the tour is “100% certain.”
Williams, 44, last won a Grand Slam singles title in 2017 and officially stepped away from tennis in 2022, saying she was “evolving away” from the sport. However, she rejoined the anti-doping testing pool last year, making her eligible to enter tournaments again. Her recent public appearances have also fueled speculation about a return.
Although Williams has denied actively preparing for a comeback, she avoided giving a clear answer when asked about it during a television interview last month. Her response raised eyebrows among fans and tennis observers who have continued to speculate about her future.
Macci, who coached Serena and her sister Venus Williams in the early 1990s, said he has seen clear signs that she is preparing seriously. According to him, she has been training with several sparring partners, including male players, to sharpen her competitive edge.
He also revealed that she has played with Alycia Parks, describing the sessions as intense and focused. Macci insisted that if Serena did not believe she could compete with the best and win matches, she would not be pushing herself so hard.
The former coach said he has no doubts about her physical ability to handle the demands of professional tennis. He believes the real question is whether her competitive drive remains strong. In his view, her current training answers that question clearly.
Williams’ team has not officially confirmed any comeback plans. Still, Macci suggested that tournaments such as Indian Wells Open or the Miami Open could serve as possible stages for her return.
For now, fans can only watch and wait. If Serena does return, it would mark another dramatic chapter in a career that has already defined two decades of women’s tennis.
