One Farmer Dead After Gunmen Attack in Ondo

Gunmen attacked two farmers along Agunla Farm Road in Ayede-Ogbese, Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State, killing one of them.
The Ondo State Police Command confirmed the incident on Tuesday, saying the attack was reported at about 9:30 p.m. by a concerned resident.
Police spokesperson, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, said preliminary findings showed that the deceased, Ben Daniels, and another man, James Unekwu, were riding on a motorcycle to their camp when they were allegedly ambushed by unknown gunmen.
Jimoh explained that Unekwu managed to escape, while Daniels was killed and his body dumped by the roadside. Police operatives later moved to the scene, evacuated the corpse and deposited it at a mortuary for preservation and autopsy.
According to the command, Unekwu is currently in protective custody as tensions rise over a possible conspiracy, while investigations continue.
The police urged residents to remain calm and avoid blocking highways or engaging in actions that could disrupt public peace, noting that such activities infringe on the rights of other road users.
The state Commissioner of Police assured residents that the command remains committed to tackling crime and ensuring those responsible are brought to justice.
Meanwhile, youths in Ayede-Ogbese community on Tuesday morning barricaded the Akure/Owo highway in protest against the continued killings in the area, causing heavy disruption to vehicular movement.
