The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has fixed Wednesday, January 21, 2026, as the start date for the 2026 Batch ‘A’ Stream I Orientation Course across the country.
The scheme disclosed this in a statement shared on its official X handle on Tuesday. It said registration at all 37 NYSC orientation camps nationwide will run from Wednesday, January 21, to midnight on Friday, January 23, 2026.
According to the statement, the swearing-in ceremony for corps members is scheduled for Friday, January 23, while the orientation exercise will officially end with a closing ceremony on Tuesday, February 10, 2026.
The Director-General of NYSC, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, urged prospective corps members to travel safely to their states of deployment and advised them against embarking on night journeys. He also encouraged all participants to strictly follow the orientation timetable to ensure a hitch-free programme.
The NYSC scheme, which was introduced in 1973 after the Nigerian Civil War, was designed to promote national unity and integration among young Nigerians.
The three-week orientation camp marks the first phase of the service year, during which corps members take part in paramilitary drills, skills acquisition and entrepreneurship training, lectures on national development, and various cultural activities aimed at strengthening unity across ethnic and religious divides.
