Man Shot in Leg by Federal Agent in Minneapolis Incident

A federal officer in Minneapolis shot a man in the leg on Wednesday after the man attacked him with a shovel during an arrest attempt, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) said.
The incident followed a car chase involving a Venezuelan national in the country illegally. After the car crashed, the driver and two others reportedly confronted the officer, leading to the shooting. The man was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries, while the officer also received treatment for minor injuries.
The shooting sparked clashes between protesters and law enforcement in the Hawthorne area, near the scene. Some demonstrators damaged vehicles believed to belong to federal authorities, and tensions in the city remained high following the recent fatal shooting of Renee Nicole Good by an ICE agent.
DHS said the officer acted in self-defense, while city officials called for calm amid the unrest. Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey described the situation as “unsustainable,” and city authorities reiterated their demand for ICE to leave the city.
Police said some officers were targeted with fireworks, ice, and snowballs during the protests. Officials urged the public to remain calm as the city works to restore order.
