Lagos clears illegal structures on Badagry Expressway

The Lagos State Government has launched a major operation to remove illegal structures along the Lagos–Badagry Expressway, aiming to restore smooth traffic flow.
Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, announced the clearance on his X handle on Monday, saying the exercise started at Alakija in Amuwo-Odofin Local Government Area.
Wahab explained that the operation had progressed through Iyana Iba and was ongoing opposite Lagos State University (LASU), with enforcement also taking place at Alaba Market in Ojo Local Government Area. He said, “Operatives of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Agency (@LAGESCOfficial), alongside teams from the Ministry of Environment and Water Resources, are carrying out the clearance at Alakija. The operation has moved through Iyana Iba and is currently ongoing opposite LASU, with active enforcement at Alaba Market along the Lagos–Badagry Expressway.”
The exercise is part of a wider push by the state government to improve environmental sanitation, reduce traffic congestion, and ensure compliance with urban planning regulations. Similar enforcement actions were carried out across Lagos in late 2025, including operations on Jakande Coastal Road and interventions targeting street beggars on the Lekki-Epe corridor.
