KWAM1 Appeals to Abiodun, Seeks Awujale Nomination Meeting Nullification

Popular Fuji musician, Alhaji Wasiu Ayinde, known as KWAM1, has written for the second time to Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, calling for the annulment of the Fusengbuwa Ruling House nomination meeting held on January 12, 2026, for the next Awujale of Ijebu.
In a letter dated January 14, 2026, and obtained by our reporters on Friday, KWAM1, through his lawyer Dr. Wahab Shittu, alleged that the nomination meeting excluded several eligible members of the ruling house, including himself, and introduced a delegate system that undermined the statutory procedure under the Ogun State Obas and Chiefs Law 2021.
Ayinde argued that the meeting, which was intended to nominate candidates for the vacant Awujale stool following the demise of Oba Sikiru Adetona, was procedurally defective, unlawful, and “null and void.” He noted that the Secretary of Ijebu Ode Local Government had directed the Fusengbuwa Ruling House to convene a statutory meeting, but security personnel reportedly prevented him and other members from entering the venue at Bisrod Hotel, Ijebu Ode.
According to KWAM1, the imposed delegate system disenfranchised legitimate members, and the nomination exercise violated their fundamental rights. He urged Governor Abiodun to cancel the January 12 meeting and order a fresh, transparent, and inclusive exercise to ensure all eligible members could participate without obstruction.
The nomination meeting on January 12 produced 95 contestants, including 94 princes and one princess from the Fusengbuwa Ruling House. The exercise was overseen by the ruling house leadership and officials from Ijebu Ode Local Government, who observed the process. The leadership commended participants for maintaining peace during the event.
KWAM1 has previously approached the Ogun State High Court in Ijebu Ode seeking an interim injunction to stop the selection process, but the court declined to grant it. He later withdrew the suit without explanation.
Meanwhile, the Fusengbuwa Ruling House maintains that KWAM1 is not a member and therefore not eligible to participate in the nomination. The ruling house vice chairman, Prof. Fassy Yusuf, described KWAM1’s latest letter as “arrant nonsense.” The state government has yet to respond to requests for comment.
