Jigawa Reduces Civil Servants’ Work Hours

The Jigawa State Government has announced reduced working hours for civil servants throughout the 2026 Ramadan fast to allow for greater spiritual engagement and ease of observance.
The statement, signed by the State Head of Civil Service, Muhammad Dagaceri, and released in Dutse by the Public Relations Officer, Ismaila Dutse, said the adjustment was approved by Governor Umar Namadi.
Civil servants will now work from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm Monday through Thursday, instead of the usual 5:00 pm closing time. On Fridays, hours will be 9:00 am to 1:00 pm, following existing practice.
Dagaceri said the adjustment is intended to boost productivity and morale while giving workers more time to prepare for iftar and engage in spiritual activities.
He encouraged civil servants to use the opportunity to pray for guidance, peace, and prosperity for Jigawa State and Nigeria, and to strengthen their spiritual growth while contributing to state development.
The announcement was welcomed by workers interviewed in Dutse. Ahmed Danladi of the Ministry of Education said it would allow civil servants to observe Ramadan while performing their duties effectively. Rafi’u Abdullahi of the Jigawa State Water Board described it as a move that helps workers manage time and focus on spiritual growth.
Ramadan, a holy month of fasting, prayer, charity, and spiritual renewal, is one of the five pillars of Islam, symbolizing obedience, self-discipline, and submission to God.
