Hospital Reacts To Doctors’ Suspension

Atlantis Pediatric Hospital has reacted to the suspension of its Chief Medical Director following the controversy surrounding the death of the young son of Nigerian writer Chimamanda Adichie. The hospital said it had received official communication informing it about the decision.
Management stated that the letter notifying the hospital of the suspension was dated February 25 but was delivered several days later. The hospital noted that it acknowledged the development while reviewing the issues surrounding the decision.
The suspension is linked to investigations into the death of 21-month-old Nkanu Adichie-Esege. The child died after undergoing medical treatment during a procedure at a medical facility.
Authorities had earlier set up an investigative panel to review the circumstances surrounding the incident and determine whether proper medical procedures were followed.
In its response, Atlantis Pediatric Hospital maintained that its medical professionals acted responsibly while attending to the patient. The hospital said its team followed standard medical practices during the process.
The hospital also reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining high standards of medical care, patient safety and professional conduct in all its operations.
Management explained that the matter is currently before the Lagos State Coroner’s Court, which is conducting an inquest to determine the exact cause of the child’s death.
Because the case is already before the court, the hospital said it would limit public comments in order to respect the ongoing legal process.
The hospital added that it would cooperate fully with all lawful investigations and provide any necessary information required during the inquest.
It also expressed sympathy to the family over the tragic loss, describing the incident as deeply painful and extending condolences during the difficult period.
