Eight people have lost their lives in a road crash that happened early Thursday along Zaria Road in Jos, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has announced. The incident occurred during the night, prompting an emergency response from the Plateau State Command.
The accident involved a trailer and a bus carrying eleven male students from the University of Jos. According to Sector Commander Olajide Mogaji, seven victims were already lifeless when officials arrived and were later confirmed dead by medical staff. Another injured student died in the hospital, raising the death toll to eight, while three survivors remain under treatment.
FRSC Public Education Officer Peter Longsan said an eyewitness blamed the crash on the bus’s high speed and a dangerous attempt to overtake, which caused the driver to lose control. He noted that further investigation is ongoing.
The Corps urged motorists to avoid night travel, speeding, and other risky habits, and reminded the public to use the FRSC emergency number, 122, to report crashes quickly.
