Former NEPC Boss Olusegun Awolowo Dies at 62

Former Executive Director of the Nigerian Export Promotion Council, Olusegun Awolowo, died on Thursday, according to a statement released by his family. Awolowo, aged 62, was the grandson of the late nationalist Chief Obafemi Awolowo and had been a well-known figure in public service for many years.
His family announced the news with deep sorrow, describing him as a devoted husband, father and grandfather whose life was marked by love, humility and service. They said he was the “anchor of the family” and someone who lived each day with purpose and integrity.
In the statement, the family praised him for his loyalty to Nigeria, saying he worked passionately for national development throughout his career. They added that he served his country with “vision, passion and unwavering commitment,” and touched many lives through his kindness and generosity.
Awolowo’s loved ones said they are heartbroken by the loss but grateful for the legacy he leaves behind. They described him as a man who valued his family, his work and his faith, and who carried himself with a gentle spirit admired by all who knew him.
Olusegun Awolowo held several public service roles over the years and remained respected for his contributions to Nigeria’s growth. His family has asked for prayers as they mourn, saying, “May his gentle soul rest in perfect peace.”
