Fake Fafunmi Land Claim Alert

The board of directors of Madam Efunroye Tinubu Shifiu Limosa has issued a warning to the public regarding a circulating poster claiming that Pa. Fafunmi Ogunyoye is the rightful owner of large swathes of land across Lagos, including areas in Onigbongbo, Oworoshoki, Gbagada, Mushin, Ikeja, Agege, Oshodi-Isolo, Alimosho, and Eti Osa.
According to the board, the notice, which references a 1911–1912 survey allegedly conducted by Late Herbert Macauley and cites court cases from 1912 and 1913, did not originate from Madam Efunroye Tinubu’s family or their legal representatives.
The directors emphasized that the public should be cautious of individuals using the names of the Tinubu family or Herbert Macauley to promote fraudulent land claims. They warned that such acts are criminal and could mislead unsuspecting members of the public into illegal transactions or financial loss.
“The information circulating is false and has no connection to our family or any legitimate legal process,” the board said in a statement. “We urge the public to be vigilant and not fall victim to this scam.”
Chief Akindele Akinfolabi, the sole power of attorney for Madam Efunroye Tinubu Shifiu Limosa, expressed shock at the audacity of those spreading the false notice. He said, “It is surprising to see some individuals using Madam Efunroye’s name and referencing Herbert Macauley’s judgments to attempt to syphon money from unsuspecting people. This is a deliberate attempt to defraud the public, and we strongly condemn it.”
The board advised anyone who encounters the poster, or those promoting it, to immediately report the matter to the nearest police station. They reiterated that the family is not involved in any ongoing land transactions connected to the areas mentioned in the notice.
According to the statement, the poster also falsely referenced legal suits, including Suit No: 124/1912, Suit No: ID/4148LM/2022, and Suit No: 113/1913. The family clarified that none of these cases authorize any new claims to the lands listed, and any assertion otherwise is a fabrication.
Authorities and the family emphasized the importance of public awareness, cautioning Lagos residents against engaging with individuals claiming ownership through these fraudulent documents.
“Members of the public are urged to independently verify land claims before taking any action,” the board said. “Do not be persuaded by social media posts, posters, or messages that use historical references or the names of prominent families to validate land ownership.”
The warning comes amid increasing cases of land fraud in Lagos, where scammers often exploit historical claims, family names, or legal documents to trick property buyers.
Chief Akinfolabi assured that the family is working closely with legal authorities to monitor and address any misuse of their name or purported legal references.
“The safety and security of the public are paramount. We are committed to ensuring that no individual falls prey to these fraudulent activities,” he said.
The board also reminded members of the public that Madam Efunroye Tinubu Shifiu Limosa retains sole authority over her properties and land affairs, and no third party has been granted permission to act on her behalf outside recognized legal channels.
Residents were advised to report suspicious activities or individuals claiming connections to the Tinubu family regarding land ownership to the police without delay.
“This is a serious warning. Anyone found propagating these false claims will face the full force of the law,” the board added.
The statement concluded by urging the public to remain alert and consult verified sources before making decisions involving land transactions or property rights.
The board’s clarification comes at a time when historical references and legal citations are increasingly being manipulated in Lagos real estate scams, putting buyers and communities at risk.
Members of the public are encouraged to share this warning widely to prevent the spread of misinformation and protect Lagos residents from potential financial losses.
Authorities continue to investigate the origin of the fraudulent poster, and the Tinubu family is cooperating fully to ensure perpetrators are brought to justice.
The family reaffirmed that any legitimate property dealings will always be communicated through official channels and that any documents, notices, or claims circulating outside these channels should be treated as fraudulent.
The public is reminded that Madam Efunroye Tinubu’s family has no ongoing land claims related to Pa. Fafunmi Ogunyoye, and any assertion otherwise is false.
In conclusion, Lagos residents are urged to exercise extreme caution, report suspicious activities, and verify all land ownership claims before engaging in transactions, ensuring they are not deceived by fraudulent notices or schemes.
