Disu Confirmed As Substantive IGP By Police Council

The National Police Council has unanimously confirmed Olatunji Disu as the substantive Inspector-General of Police.
The announcement was made by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu, following the council’s meeting at the State House, Abuja, which lasted about 40 minutes.
The meeting, which began at around 2:15 pm on Monday, complied with the Police Act 2020 requiring the council to formally consider the appointment before transmitting the name to the Senate for confirmation.
Attendees included Vice President Kashim Shettima, Secretary to the Government of the Federation George Akume, National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, the Head of Civil Service Didi Walson-Jack, several state governors, and ministers of Police Affairs, Interior, and the FCT.
Disu, 59, has been serving in an acting capacity since his appointment following the resignation of former IGP Kayode Egbetokun, who cited family reasons for stepping down.
The Police Council, chaired by the President and comprising all 36 state governors, the Chairman of the Police Service Commission, and the IGP, approved Disu’s confirmation as substantive head of the Nigeria Police Force.
