Deadly Kwara Attack: Many People Killed as Villagers Flee Violence

A violent attack in Kwara State claimed many lives this week in what residents described as a brutal assault on rural communities. The incident happened late at night while people were in their homes.
Local officials said the number of people killed is very high, with over a hundred victims feared dead. Authorities said the figure could still rise as more bodies are recovered.
Survivors said gunmen stormed the villages suddenly, opened fire on civilians, and set houses and shops ablaze. Many villagers ran into nearby bushes to escape.
Some officials said the attackers targeted residents who refused to follow their demands. Those killed reportedly included women, children, and elderly people.
The state government described the killings as shocking and heartbreaking. Families were seen searching for missing relatives as grief spread across the communities.
In response, the Federal Government ordered security forces to move into the affected areas to prevent further attacks. Soldiers were deployed to work with local security teams.
Many of the victims were buried quickly, with neighbours gathering in sorrow to mourn the dead. The atmosphere in the villages was filled with fear and sadness.
Community leaders called for stronger security presence, saying rural areas have become easy targets for armed groups. They asked for constant patrols and faster response to threats.
Residents who survived said they heard gunshots for hours and hid in fear until morning. Many described the attack as the worst they had ever witnessed.
The incident has raised fresh concerns about safety in remote communities, with many calling for urgent action to stop such deadly attacks from happening again.
