Army Commanding Officer, Six Soldiers Killed in Deadly IED Blast in Borno Operation

At least seven Nigerian Army personnel, including a commanding officer, have been killed after an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) struck a military patrol team in Borno State.
The troops were reportedly on operational movement in a conflict-prone area of the state when the explosive device detonated, hitting their vehicle and causing heavy casualties on the spot.
Military sources said the explosion occurred during a routine security operation aimed at clearing suspected insurgent routes and restoring stability in the region.
The blast is believed to have been planted by suspected insurgents operating within the area, which has remained a hotspot for violent attacks and ambushes against security forces.
Following the incident, surviving soldiers reportedly evacuated the wounded while reinforcement teams were deployed to secure the area and prevent further attacks.
Security authorities are yet to release full official details, but the incident adds to ongoing concerns over the use of roadside explosives in parts of the North-East.
