PSC Dismisses Four Senior Police Officers, Demotes 10 Over Misconduct

The Police Service Commission has dismissed four senior police officers and reduced the ranks of 10 others after finding them guilty of various acts of misconduct during its latest disciplinary review.
The commission also imposed different sanctions on 31 other senior officers as part of efforts to strengthen discipline, professionalism and accountability within the Nigeria Police Force.
The disciplinary decisions were reached during the commission’s plenary meeting chaired by its Chairman, retired Deputy Inspector-General of Police Hashimu Argungu.
According to the PSC, the four dismissed officers were found culpable of serious misconduct, while the 10 demoted officers included three Superintendents of Police reduced to the rank of Deputy Superintendent, two Deputy Superintendents reduced to Assistant Superintendent and five Assistant Superintendents demoted to the rank of Inspector.
The commission also approved various disciplinary measures against 31 other senior officers, including severe reprimands, reprimands and warning letters, depending on the gravity of their offences.
PSC said the sanctions followed the consideration of several pending disciplinary cases brought before the commission for review.
Argungu reiterated the commission’s commitment to sanitising the police force, warning officers to conduct themselves professionally and strictly comply with the laws, regulations and ethical standards guiding police operations.
He stressed that the commission would continue to deal firmly with cases of indiscipline while ensuring that officers who perform their duties professionally receive the necessary support and career advancement.
The PSC maintained that the disciplinary actions form part of ongoing reforms aimed at improving public confidence in the Nigeria Police Force and ensuring accountability among serving officers.
