Nigerian Equities Market further closed southwards as market sentiment remained negative at the close of trading today.
The NGX All-Share index dipped by -0.04% to close at 53,170.73 basis points as against -0.14% loss recorded at the end of the previous trading session. In Naira terms, the NGX Market CAP records N12.53bn loss.
At the end of today’s trading, a total of 318,417,693 shares in 4,345 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 3,338,540,257.63, were traded. Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Wednesday, June 8), today’s data shows 28% improvement in volume, 79% improvement in turnover, and 2% improvement in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 28.7 trillion.
In the aggregate, 117 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 15 gainers and 17 losers. University Press led the gainers with 9.43% share price appreciation closing at NGN 2.90 per share, followed by Cornerstone Insurance Company (+8.93%), Ellah Lakes (+7.89%) and International Breweries (+4.23%).
On the losing side, C&I Leasing came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 8.57% at NGN 3.20 per share, followed by FTN Cocoa Processors (-8.33%), Ikeja Hotel (-3.23%) and Glaxo Smithkline Consumer (-2.74%). Transcorp Nigeria recorded the highest volume of 165 million traded shares, followed by Guaranty Trust Holding (22.2m), United Bank for Africa (19.1m) and FBN Holdings (13.3m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) pared 23.25 (-0.04%) points to close at 53,170.73, representing a 1-week gain of 0.63%, a 4-week gain of 0.48%, and an overall year-to-date gain of 24.47%.
Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 30 Index (-0.05%; +0.83% 1WK; +12.35% YTD), NGX Top 50 Index (-0.29%; -0.48% 1WK; +9.47% YTD), NGX Insurance Index (+1.47%; +0.28% 1WK; -9.27% YTD), NGX Oil & Gas Index (+0.46%; +1.68% 1WK; +60.94% YTD), NGX Consumer Goods Index (+0.13%; +0.45% 1WK; +9.76% YTD), and NGX Industrial Index (+0.13%; +0.22% 1WK; +9.5% YTD).
