Jigawa State Police Command has confirmed that arrest of a 50-year-old man identified as Ibrahim Adamu, for allegedly butchering his four –year-old stepson to death.
The State Police Spokesperson, DSP Lawan Shiisu Adam, who confirmed the arrest of Adamu in a statement made available to an online medium, said the said incident occurred at Unguwar Dinya village, Roni Local Government Area of the state.
“On 8/8/2023 at about 2130hrs, an ugly information was received from Unguwar Dinya village in Roni LGA of Jigawa State, that at about 1942hrs, a four-year-old boy Salmanu Umar was seen covered with blood with a deep cut on his throat.
“On receiving the report, a team of detectives led by Divisional Police Officer, Roni Division, rushed to the scene of the crime and conveyed the victim to General Hospital Kazaure for treatment; he later died while receiving treatment,” Shiisu said.
According to the state police image –maker, the investigation led to the arrest of the suspect, who is the husband to the deceased’s mother.
Shiisu added that on interrogation, the man confessed to the commission of the crime over a hatred he developed for the child, that he cannot afford to be feeding someone’s child.
The Police spokesperson explained further that the suspect also admitted that he attempted to kill the child for the first time, but the attempt was foiled by the deceased’s mother who reported him to her in-law.
