The 2023 presidential elections will indeed solidify the nation’s democracy as Mr Peter Obi who switched from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has been served the presidential ticket of Nigeria’s populist political platform, the Labour Party.
Mr Obi had last week resigned his membership of the PDP and withdrew his aspiration to contest for the presidency of the country under the party citing ideological incongruity. He later forged new ideological alignment with progressive forces in the Labour Party to forge a formidable contest for the office of the president in the upcoming 2023 elections.
In a rare show of internal harmony and common goal, fellow aspirants who had prepared to contest for the party’s ticket for the 2023 polls, including eminent Professor Pat Utomi and Joseph Faduri, have agreed to project Peter Obi to represent the party in the elections which has been hitherto dominated by the two main political parties in the country: the PDP and the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC).
In stepping down for Mr Obi, Professor Pat Utomi said he was supporting a younger aspirant who would driver harder to deliver the country from the precipice and secure the future for the younger generation of Nigerians.
Prof. Utomi who has spent years analyzing and proffering solutions to the nation’s socio-economic problems declared that the selection process for the presidential candidate of the Labour Party has set the stage for liberation of Nigeria.
In also stepping down for Mr Obi, the 45-year old Joseph Faduri who aspired for the ticket of the party to contest in the 2023 presidential declared that the country needs a great mind to steer it into course of recovery and sustainable growth.
The final declaration of the party’s flag bearer for 2023 presidential will be made at the end of the primaries currently holding in Asaba, Delta State.
