An Ebute Metta Magistrate in Lagos State presided over by O.M. Ajayi has remanded a 54-year-old man identified as Jegede Folorunsho at the Ikoyi Correctional Centre for allegedly raping an eight-year-old girl in the neighborhood of Mushin .
The police prosecutor, Paul Ugorji, told the court that Folorunsho sexually assaulted the victim, just as he also added that the crime violated Section 137 of the Lagos State, Nigeria, 2015 Criminal Law.
The charge reads, “That you, Jegede Folorunsho, on October 4, 2023, at No 4 Adegbite Lane, Mushin Lagos State, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did defile one girl (name withheld), a minor of eight years, by having carnal knowledge of her and thereby, committed an offense punishable under Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.”
The defendant’s plea was not taken.
The magistrate granted the police’s application and ordered that the accused be remanded at the Ikoyi Correctional Centre.
The court further directed that the DPP be consulted for legal guidance on the case file.
The magistrate adjourned the case to December 15, 2023, for a report on the DPP advice.
