Liz Truss has been named leader of UK’s Conservative Party and will replace Boris Johnson as prime minister.
She defeated fellow lead contender Rishi Sunak by 81,326 to 60,399
She has promised to bring relief to Britons amid soaring energy costs, cut taxes and improve healthcare.
She paid tribute to Boris Johnson for standing up to Russia, crushing Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn and leading the country through the COVID-19 pandemic.
She is the UK’s third female prime minister after Margaret Thatcher and Theresa May.
Johnson will travel tomorrow to Balmoral Castle in Scotland to submit his resignation as prime minister to Head of State, Queen Elizabeth II while Truss will follow to meet the Queen who will ask her to form the next government.
Truss, 47, had served as foreign minister under Johnson before her election as party leader.
