Gunmen have invaded Maru town, the headquarters of Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State, killing two people , abducting a lecturer from the College of State Education (COE) and three others.
A resident of the area, who identified his name as Usman Ibrahim, confirmed the development, saying the gunmen stormed the town last Saturday night.
According to him, the assailants killed two people and abducting four others, including Nasiru Mohammed Anka, a lecturer at the College of Education Maru.
“The terrorists entered the town with sophisticated weapons and began shooting sporadically. Later, they moved from house to house, where they abducted four people.
“They also opened fire on others who tried to escape the abduction. They killed two people and injured many others during the operation.”
According to another resident, who simply identified himself as Isiaku, said last Saturday’s attack on the town was the fourth of its kind in just one month, and he appealed to the state government and other relevant authorities to take serious measures to address the dire situation.
“The terrorists have been attacking the town, even though it is a local government headquarters and very close to the Gusau-Sokoto road. Just last week, they attacked the town.”
As at the time of filing this report, the Zamfara State Police Command has yet to comment on confirm the sad development.
