The Enugu State Police Command has confirmed that at least four people died in a communal land dispute involving two communities in Ezeagu Local Government Area of the State.
The state Police Spokesperson, DSP Daniel Ndukwe who confirmed thedevelopment in a statement in Enugu, the state capital on Sunday, August 13, also confirmed the arrest of 12 suspects in connection with the communal clash.
According to Ndukwe, the clash between the Oyofo and Awha communities took place on Friday, 11 August, 2023 at about 10 am.
“The Commissioner of Police, Mr Ahmed Ammani, has ordered the deployment of police operatives to Oyofo and Awha communities.
“The deployment is to maintain the normalcy already restored in the area after the clash.
“The clash led to the murder of four males and the burning of one tricycle and five motorcycles,” he said.
The police image-maker added that preliminary investigation showed that the clash was due to land ownership tussle between the communities.
