FG releases N3b intervention fund to flood victims in Bornu state

Maiduguri, Sept. 11, 2024 – The federal Government has released N3 billion intervention fund to flood victims in Bornu state.

Babagana Zulum, the state governor,  announced this on Wednesday while donating cash to some of displaced persons in Maiduguri.

He said food items and other basic necessities would also be provided, while vendors had been contracted to feed the displaced persons in the camp.

Zulum said the ₦3 billion received from the Federal Government would be used to address the flood challenges.

He promised that a health committee would be constituted to look into possible outbreaks of diseases.  

Zulum said search and rescue operations had started across the affected communities to determine number of lives lost, while data collation of affected persons would be done immediately.

He said the flood was caused by the heavy terrestrial rainfall in the state this year and development that had overtaken water channels across the state capital which blocked the drainages.

He also blamed the overflow of Alo Dam which was caused by the release of water from other dams in Cameroon.
