Ipara Community in Remo Local Government of Ogun State was thrown into confusion yesterday morning as an 84-year-old man, Elder Alfred Opadipe was beheaded by a man named David Shodola suspected to be mentally challenged.
Ogun State Police spokesperson, Omotola Odutola, who confirmed the incident late on the evening of Friday, said a distress call from an unnamed informant prompted Divisional Police Officer (DPO) CSP Bankole Isara Eluyeru to lead some officers to the scene.
According to her, the suspect fiercely resisted arrest as he used “the machete on the DPO and his men.” The team succeeded “in neutralising the suspect and recovering a weapon from him,” she affirmed.
The police spokesperson, however, asserted that there was “no recount of the suspect being a madman from the intelligence the police gathered.”
It was gathered that Shodola, 32, reportedly beheaded his victim yesterday morning, throwing the town into confusion.
He also ended up dead as he violently resisted arrest and attacked police officers with a machete.
