The German Football governing body, DFB has sacked the former Bayern Munich sextiuple-winning manager Hansi Flick as head coach of the national team.
His sack came after a 4-1 embarrassing defeat to Japan in a recent friendly match yesterday
The match, held at the Volkswagen Arena in Wolfsburg, saw Junya Ito break the deadlock for Japan with an 11th-minute goal. However, Germany’s hopes were briefly rejuvenated when Bayern Munich forward Leroy Sane managed to equalize for the home side
Nonetheless, Japan regained their lead midway through the first half, with Ayase Ueda capitalizing on an opportunity from close range. As the match neared its conclusion, Takuma Asano and Ao Tanaka added further goals, effectively sealing Japan’s victory.
This loss marks Germany’s fourth defeat in their last five matches, and it stands as their most substantial setback since their 6-0 loss to Spain in the Nations League back in 2020.
Since taking over from Joachim Low in August 2021, has managed to secure just 12 wins out of 25 matches in charge.
Germany’s struggles extend beyond this recent defeat, as they also suffered a 2-1 loss to Japan during the 2022 World Cup, failing to advance from their group stage. In their last 12 fixtures, the national team has recorded only three wins, against Oman, Costa Rica, and Peru.
