…Christian clerics attend event
The All Progressives Congress, APC, has unveiled former Borno State Governor, Kashim Shettima as its 2023 vice-presidential candidate.
Shettima was unveiled at an event held at the Shehu Musa Yar’adua Centre in Abuja on Wednesday.
APC presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu had picked Shettima as his running mate following his emergence as the party’s presidential candidate.
Tinubu’s choice of Shettima has continued to cause controversy across Nigeria.
Many Nigerians had expected the APC presidential candidate to pick a Christian as his running mate based on a long standing convention, but he settled for a Northern Muslim instead.
Tinubu’s campaign director general, Adebayo Shittu, had dismissed the concerns claiming that 65 percent of the population in his south west home base, were Muslims.
“It is on the basis of religion that people are making noise about the so-called Muslim-Muslim ticket.
“In Ekiti, it is Christian-Christian ticket. In Ondo, it is Christian-Christian ticket. In Edo, where the Northern part of the state is largely Muslim, it is Christian-Christian ticket. Nobody is making noise about this,”, he had said on an AIT programme.
Meanwhile, some Christian clerics were seen at Shettima’s unveiling despite strong opposition to his choice by the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN).
