Ogun Assembly approves ROMO as affiliate of Motorcycle Operators Union of Nigeria

The Ogun State House of Assembly has passed a resolution confirming the Riders and Owners of Motorcycle Organization (ROMO) as an affiliate of Motorcycle Operators’ Union of Nigeria (MOUN).

The resolution, according to the House, is part of moves to strengthen the transportation sector in the state.

The passage of the resolution followed the presentation of the report of the House Committee on Transportation by the Chairman, Wasiu Ayodele, who thereafter moved for its adoption.

The report partly reads: “We your Committee on Transportation met and discussed the request of the Riders and Owners of Motorcycle Organisation (ROMO), Ogun State notifying the House about its new status as an affiliate of Motorcycle Operators’ Union of Nigeria (MOUN) and seek for necessary legislative support and recognition in its desire to become a member of the larger union and work closely with the (MOUN) to advocate for the rights and interest of its members at the national level.

“The Motorcycle Operators Union of Nigeria (MOUN) is a duly registered Trade Union by the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment in pursuant of its mandate as enshrined in the Trade Union Act CAP T.14 of 2004 Law of the Federation of Nigeria with its jurisdiction scope to cover “All reasonable, interested Nigerians of 18 years and above who operate a bike for commercial purposes.

“The Committee having gone through all the relevant documents attached and done its due diligence on the request, resolved that members of the Riders and Owners of Motorcycle Organisation (ROMO) stands to enjoy numerous benefits and empowerments programmes through the Federal government various initiatives for better operations as a member of the larger union.

“The Committee hereby recommended that the House should pass a motion to this effect and forward same to necessary agencies of both State, Federal Governments an general public to accord (ROMO) due recognition as an affiliate of Motorcycle Operation Union of Nigeria (MOUN).”
