Bobrisky: Reps to investigate EFCC, Correctional Service

Abuja, Sept. 26, 2024 – The House of Representatives is to investigate the EFCC and the Nigeria Correctional Service (NCS) for allegedly receiving ₦15 million bribe from Idris Okuneye, a crossdresser, also known as Bobrisky.

Following allegation of Naira abuse, the crossdresser was tried in court and found guilty of naira abuse for which he was sentences to six years imprisonment.

After serving his jail, Okuneye was said to have alleged that he paid N15 million to the EFCC to have one of alleged offices delisted from the charge sheet.

There are also reports that Okuneye did not serve his jail terms withiin the NCS custody, but outside the walls of the prison.

Following these allegations, the House of Representatives, on Wednesday, resolved to set up a committee to probe the allegations.

This was in response to a motion by Hon Patrick Umoh, a member representing the Ikot Ekpene/Essien Udim/Obot Akara Federal Constituency.

The motion is titled “Urgent need to investigate the disturbing allegation of corruption against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Nigerian Correctional Service”.

It reads: “The House notes the disturbing and widely circulated publication emanating from Martins Vincent Otse (also known as VeryDarkMan) against critical Nigerian law enforcement institutions; the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Nigerian Correctional Service;

“Also notes the publication alleges that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) dropped money laundry charges against Idris Okuneye (also known as Bobrisky) upon collection of the sum of Fifteen Million Naira (15, 000, 000).

“Further notes that the publication alleges that Idris Okuneye, upon conviction for abuse and defacing of the Naira, by the court did not serve his time at the Nigeria Correctional Service, but was lodged outside the confines of the Service.

“Urge the House to set up an ad-hoc Committee comprising of persons of unquestionable integrity to immediately probe the allegation and report to the House within 3 legislative weeks.”   (GBN)
