Following the attack on the Adamawa State Police Headquarters in Yola, by soldiers the State Commissioner of Police, CP, Afolabi Babatola, has condemned the assault, just as he also ordered an immediate investigation into the incident.
The attack occurred as a result of a clash between police and military officers along Target Junction in Yola North Local Government Area.
The attack was said to have took place in the early hours of Wednesday, panic gripped residents as gunmen targeted the facility, resulting in the death of Police Inspector Jacob Daniel.
It was gathered that the assailants were military personnel seeking revenge for the purported killing of one of their own by the police.
The Commissioner of Police, through a statement from the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Nguroje, shared on the State Police Command’s X account, ordered an immediate investigation into the matter.
The CP emphasized a commitment to ensuring peace and justice in the wake of the incident.
The statement conveyed the CP’s warning that attacks on security officers in the line of duty would no longer be tolerated, emphasizing the sanctity of the lives of all security personnel.
The CP pledged that any unwarranted conflict would be addressed in accordance with existing laws.
The CP stated the importance of collaboration with sister security agencies in upholding the fundamental rights of security operatives.
The police boss further appealed for calm, assuring that the top management of both security agencies are actively addressing the situation through legal means.
