Taraba Local Council Election: PDP Records Landslide Victory; APC Describes Exercise Sham

The Peoples Democratic Party(PDP), has won all the seats in the just concluded local government council election held in Taraba State on Saturday, just as the All Progressive Congress(APC) described poll as sham.

The electoral umpire said the ruling party won all the 16 local government chairmanship seats and all the 168 ward councilorship positions.

Announcing the results of the elections on Sunday in Jalingo, the state capital, the chairman of the Commission, Dr Philip Duwe, said only six out of the 19 registered political parties that participated in the election.

The election, according to him, was keenly contested.

“The results announced at the local government collation centres are legally valid and what we are doing is just to validate what has been announced.

“We are very grateful to the media for the objective coverage from the onset of this journey to this point.

“Despite the hard times, you have shown absolute commitment and resilience. You have served your fatherland excellently and you can hold your shoulders high,” he said.

Meanwhile, the major opposition party, APC, has called for the cancellation of the election.

Reacting to the results announced by TSIEC, the APC state chairman, Barrister Ibrahim Tuktur El-Sudi, who described the exercise as “a sham”, said results were already entered in favour of the PDP before the commencement of the election.
