African football governing body, Confederation of African Football (CAF) on Monday confirmed the selection of Nigerian female referee, Yemisi Akintoye, among the officials of the 2023 African Women’s Champions League.
Akintoye, a graduate of the University of Lagos, is among the 12 referees selected by CAF after a one-week pre-tournament course.
This is the first time she will be officiating in a major tournament in Africa.
Akintoye was badged as a FIFA referee in 2021.
Salma Musaganda of Rwanda, who was the first African woman Referee to officiate at the men’s World Cup is also among the arbiters shortlisted by CAF.
