Harry Kane’s debut for German football giants ended not as the way he expected it as his new club suffered 0-3 defeat in the German Super Cup at the hands of RB Leipzig.
The Three Lions of England captain, who on Saturday morning completed a transfer from boyhood teaM, Tottenham, which could be worth in excess of over 100 million pounds, was included in Bayern’s match day squad – giving him the opportunity to win silverware on his first day at the club.
Winning would have boosted an already momentous day in the striker’s career, especially on his debut having signed a four year contract with the club .
Kane, who leaves Tottenham as the club’s all-time record goalscorer with 280 strikes, says that that he signed for the Bundlesliga champions in order to prove himself “at the highest level.”
Bayern had won the German Super Cup in six of the previous seven editions, including last season’s 5-3 victory over the same opponents. They were favourites to lift this season’s trophy too, which would have continued their domestic dominance in Germany – and it would have clinched Kane’s first trophy in his senior career.
Yet things did not immediately go to plan for Kane, who had to make do with a place on Bayern’s bench for the game. Thomas Tuchel’s side’s attack was led by promising French teenager Mathys Tel, but they were frustrated in front of goal.

Kane was not among the triple substitution made by the Bundesliga champions at the break but he was introduced by Tuchel in the 64th minute, replacing Tel to lead the line. Yet within four minutes, Olmo completed his hat-trick to put the game beyond Bayern’s reach – scoring from the penalty spot.
Having unusually played for his new club on the day his signing was confirmed, Kane will now have a further six days to assimilate with his new Bayern teammates ahead of Friday night’s Bundesliga opener, when the reigning champions travel to Werder Bremen.
Bayern will be heavy favourites to land the league title for a 12th consecutive season but they only clinched last season’s title based on a dramatic final day turnaround, as Borussia Dortmund dropped points in their final game as the title once again stayed in Munich.
